1 [49,0]: Woentin, Sola, Pollestad, Blödorn (d)
Woentin all the way. Tough battle for second place where Blödorn takes down Sola on the final bend. Blödorn is disqualified and Sola awarded second place.
2 [50,6]: Wahlqvist, Hjerrild, Ketelsen, Selvin
Ketelsen passed Selvin after a lap. Hjerrild hit the side of Wahlqvist on the third lap, but both managed to stay on the bike! This is gonna be a hard fought meeting, for sure.
3 [50,5]: Hellström-Bängs, Olesen, Grahn, Thorst
Hellström-Bängs from fourth to second on bends three/four of the opening lap, and two laps later, he pass Olesen as well. Good battle for the final point, with Grahn coming out on top.
4 [48,9]: Birkemose, Nielsen, Woss, Hartzberg
From the gate.
5 [50,8]: Woentin, Hartzberg, Grahn, Selvin
Hartzberg rides a bit too wide, and Woentin – knowing the fastest way around here – sneaks through on the inside. Hartzberg then gets in all kinds of troubles on the final bend, but beats Grahn to the line by a few centimeters.
6 [50,8]: Woss, Hende (for Olesen FN), Hjerrild, Sola
Hjerrild goes down on the first bend, heat is stopped and all four riders will be invited back to re-start.
Re-start is stopped again after a heavy crash involving Olesen and Sola. The latter is able to walk slowly back to the pit, but Olesen is being taken off the track in ambulance.
14:40 Medical staff will check him further in the first aid room.
14:50 They are still checking on him.
14:57 Time for the second re-run. Olesen will not ride more in this meeting. In this heat, he’s replaced by number 17 Oskar Hende.
Woss from the gate, with Hende acting as a spoiler, beating fellow Dane Hjerrild for second place.
7 [49,1]: Birkemose, Wahlqvist, Blödorn, Thorst
Birkemose fly from gate two for an easy win. Wahlqvist comfortable in second while Blödorn pass Thorst after two laps.
8 [50,5]: Pollestad, Ketelsen, Hellström-Bängs, Nielsen
Ketelsen looks certain for the win but makes a mistake on the final bend, allowing Pollestad through. Nielsen chase Hellström-Bängs hard, but the latter manage to hold one. Close speedway!
9 [50,2]: Hjerrild, Woentin, Nielsen, Thorst
From tapes to flag for Hjerrild. Woentin and Nielsen exchange second place a couple of times, with the home riders coming out with two important points.
10 [49,2]: Birkemose, Hellström-Bängs, Sola, Selvin
Birkemose pass Hellström-Bängs on the outside coming out of the openings bend. Not much drama besides that.
11 [49,1]: Blödorn, Ketelsen, Grahn, Woss (d)
Blödorn eventually pass Ketelsen in a great German battle. Woss looks certain for third, but falls on the final bend, with Grahn crashing in to him. Woss is disqualified and Grahn awarded third place.
12 [49,3]: Pollestad, Wahlqvist, Hartzberg, Henriksson
Henriksson replace Olesen, who has withdrawn from the meeting.
Hartzberg gates, but rides too wide and is passed by both Pollestad and Wahlqvist.
13 [50,2]: Wahlqvist, Hellström-Bängs, Woss, Woentin
Unsatisfactory start, with Hellström-Bängs moving at the tapes. All four back for the re-start.
Wahlqvist wins without much drama. A lot more behind him though! Tough battle for the remaining places with Hellström-Bängs forcing his way past Woss. No love being given among the four Swedes in this one.
14 [49,8]: Hartzberg, Sola, Ketelsen, Thorst
Riders are spread out evenly over the length of a straight.
15 [51,0]: Nielsen, Hende, Selvin Blödorn (d)
Hende is a replacement for Olesen.
Blödorn takes a heavy tumble in the chase for Nielsen, and is disqualified from the re-run.
Re-run from the gate.
16 [49,5]: Hjerrild, Birkemose, Pollestad, Grahn
Birkemose chase Hjerrild quite well, but isn’t close enough to make a serious attack for the lead. Pollestad comfortable in third.
17 [50,3]: Birkemose, Ketelsen, Henriksson, Woentin (d)
Olesen is replaced by Henriksson.
Woentin hit the back wheel of Ketelsen and falls to the ground, but he is able to walk back to pit area. Re-run will be made without Woentin. Ketelsen makes the gate in the re-run, but Birkemose pass the German on the third lap. BIRKEMOSE IS THE EUROPEAN CHAMPION!
18 [50,3]: Sola, Nielsen, Grahn, Wahlqvist (F)
Sola from the gate. Wahlqvist chase hard to win the heat and secure the silver medal, but takes a heavy crash on the final lap. Ouch! Wahlqvist is – after a while – able to walk back to the pit.
19 [50,2]: Hellström-Bängs, Blödorn, Hartzberg, Hjerrild
Hellström-Bängs from the gate. Close battle between the Danes, but Hjerrild remains in last and is out of contention for the medals.
20 [50,8]: Pollestad, Woss, Thorst, Selvin
Pollestad has a tough trip from the outside gate, but manage to pass Thorst and Selvin exiting bend two, and then he pass Woss as well. Pollestad force a run-off for 2nd and 3rd against Philip Hellström-Bängs.
21 [50,4]: Pollestad, Hellström-Bängs
Run-off for silver and bronze medals.
Pollestad (red), Hellström-Bängs (white)
From the gate.
The result is confirmed by the International Jury at 17:13.
